Fund Raising/Consulting: Consulted with state-wide healthcare systems to establish internal philanthropic networks and other system-wide services.
Directed the campaign team that raised over $90 million for an $80 million capital/endowment campaign at Mississippi College.
Facilitated board retreats to initiate or advance change and establish greater knowledge and accountability among board members.
Directed phase one of the five year $50 plus million campaign for Inova Health System that raised $52.6 million in four years. Principal staff person for a multi-department Inova team responsible for a $5 million grant.
Worked with clients to successfully create/enhance their grateful patient programs and thereby expand their donor base.
Consulted with organizations to effectively construct/augment their culture of philanthropy.
Facilitated an agenda changing board retreat, directed a $30+milliion campaign, conducted staff mentoring and training and assisted with a grateful patient program and system philanthropic planning at Indiana University Methodist Health Foundation.
Presented Planned Giving education for the Foundation Board at Culpepper Regional Hospital.
Initiated a new foundation board and fund raising program at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, which then averaged nearly one million dollars annually in its first four and a half years.
Consulted for nine months as interim Director of Development/Gift Planning and major gifts team leader at Children’s’ Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Served for seven months as Interim Executive Director at Evergreen Healthcare Foundation, Kirkland (Seattle), Washington.
Campaign consultant for nine months at Oklahoma City University, School of Law.
Directed a $2.12 million campaign including $500,000 from physicians at Bon Secours-St. Mary's Hospital.
Produced a new and award winning event at Bon Secours-St. Mary's Hospital and a major special event at Presbyterian Hospital that netted over $100,000 year one.
Designed and implemented for the Oklahoma Museum of Fine Art their most productive (+10%) membership brochure.
Management/Administration: While Foundation President, Rick was accountable for investment, budget, strategic planning and audit for an $8 million independent hospital foundation with more than 30 board members.
As Executive Director of a Senior Citizen’s Center, Rick increased services/ funding from 5 to 34% while volunteers and their hours doubled.
Provided consulting advice and hands-on expertise in the areas of public relations, fund raising and not-for-profit management for a variety of clients.
Public Relations/Marketing: Supervised the Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital marketing and communication department with a budget of over $1 million and a four person staff at Richmond’s largest market share hospital.
Managed media relations and served as the St. Mary’s Hospital spokesperson including several high profile situations which each resulted in positive media coverage or legislative action.
Wrote speeches/correspondence for CEOs/Board Chairs, edited newsletters and wrote articles.
Planned and implemented special events such as: a yearlong anniversary campaign, building openings, ground breaking ceremonies and a successful organ donor awareness campaign.
